If you are an experienced blackjack player, you are no doubt aware of such strategies as basic strategy sheets, card counting and shuffle tracking. These strategies were designed for use in brick and mortar casinos. Do they work for online blackjack as well? And if not, what strategies work for online blackjack players?

Blackjack Strategy - Card Counting

To count cards means to keep a mental inventory of high, low and middle cards as hands are played out. In a brick and mortar casinos, a certain percentage of a deck or shoe must be played before the dealer shuffles it all again. The more cards that are used before a shuffle, the more accurate the count.

In online blackjack, the software shuffles the cards after every game, fair and square. So card counting is useless online. Hands are dealt so fast, anyhow, that even it is really impossible to track cards.

Blackjack Strategy - Shuffle Tracking

In a brick and mortar casino, the dealer shuffles the cards regularly. For practical reasons, the dealer cannot afford to shuffle very thoroughly all the time. Shuffle tracking takes advantage of this lack of thoroughness. By tracking the location of cards that clump together, a player can predict when they will appear and also put them out of play during cutting.

Online blackjack uses computer software that shuffles the cards perfectly and thoroughly in no time at all. The cards' placement is quite unpredictable. So again this strategy does not work online.

Blackjack Strategy - Basic Strategy

Basic strategy is a hand-by-hand guide. It is a strategy sheet that tells the player in black and white how to play every possible hand combination. It is the only strategy that works in online blackjack. The downside here is that basic strategy does NOT give you an edge over the casino. All it does is reduce the house advantage to a bare minimum, about 0.5%.

Casino Bonus Money

Enter bonus money. Bonus money is just that - bonus you get for depositing money in an online casino and playing. Since with basic strategy, the casino's edge is only 0.5%, you can use the bonus money to "pad" your bankroll when playing blackjack. If you deposit $100 and get a cashable bonus of another $100, you get to play with $200. Your 0.5% will count toward the bonus $100 for a net profit of $99.50.
